Sabic confirm closure of Teeside Olefins 6 cracker
The Olefins 6 facility which produces Ethylene has been offline since 2020. Sabic which is owned by Saudi Aramco has cited the high cost of Electricity in the UK as its main reason for not bringing the Plant back on line.
The UK has the highest energy costs in the world, due to UK Government policies over recent decades. The effect of this is having a devastating effect on the viability of the Northern Economy. Ethylene production worldwide circa 316.8 Million tonnes in 2023, projected to be 406.5 Million tonnes by 2030. Production should be expanding not contracting.

Core Policy.
The Northern Alliance seeks democratic and economic fairness for the North within a renewed United Kingdom.
The Northern Alliance recognises that the North of England - the North East, North West (including Cumbria), Yorkshire and The Humber - is a place of extraordinary diversity, culture and qualities which urgently requires effective regional democratic powers and a fairer share of national resources.
We advocate for the same level of devolution, and the same distribution of the country’s resources, as currently enjoyed by the people of Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
Our aim is to fully develop the potential of the North and all its fifteen million people, ensuring that all Northern resources are developed, economically, affordably, and sustainably to meet the needs of the North not only for this generation but future generations.
The Northern Alliance is built around this core vision and welcomes the mutual support of all Northern political parties which share these goals. While our focus is on the North, we are also keen to build links with parties in the other regions of England, to pursue together a modern, equitable, federal United Kingdom & Northern Ireland.
